We are the Hughes Family

We believe in working hard and doing things the old-fashioned way together as a family.

Our Story

We were born and raised in Big Bear Lake located in Southern California, a beautiful small mountain community similar to Mount Shasta. Both Evan and I have a long background in construction.

My Grandfather owned a drywall company for over 30 years, my Dad worked for him and eventually took over the family business. He expanded the business and began building custom spec homes and high-end contracts. My adventure into the world of construction started in 2002 when I took a leap of faith and moved back to my hometown to work for my Dad. At that time, I realized I needed to get my real estate license to start selling the homes that we were building. My career as a real estate agent started at the age of 22 and my Dad and I built Baird Construction & Development over 10 years. I bought my first fixer house at 23, became a top agent at Century21 by 25 and ran over 100 guys working for our constriction company. My Dad was old school...built every house on a handshake. I learned how to be a strong female in a man's world, I learned who to hire but more importantly who not to hire!

Evan started his career in construction in the 90s when we began working for his brother who was a local contractor. Starting from the bottom of the pecking order he learned really quickly how to use a shovel. He then got into the world of concrete and started his career as a concrete contractor. From foundations to flat work, he did it all for 17 years. In 1992 he got his general contractors license and started framing new construction homes and found a love for finish work. After years of hard work and a tired back from scrubbing concrete he went back to school to learn a new technique of concrete...concrete countertops.

Our journey started in Big Bear but we took a quick 5-year pitstop in Orange County where our beautiful daughter Samantha was born. We quickly realized the city was not where we wanted to raise our kid (although we do miss warm beaches), we headed north. We landed in beautiful Sonoma County to be with family, and live the country life.

At this point we became a sub-contractor for Tuff Shed and Home Depot. We have had over 20 crews building sheds all over the bay area. We had the honor of building the millionth shed and we continue building sheds, garages,& studios every day! My career as a realtor continued at Coldwell Banker in Sebastopol, I continue to help clients buy and sell from Sonoma County to Mount Shasta.

In 2020 we took our biggest leap of faith yet... we bought a ranch property in Mount Shasta. We loved the idea of being back in the mountains, we wanted more of the outdoor lifestyle and the possibility of more animals and land to have our own little homestead. In 2021 we opened up Cascade Lawn & Maintenance in Mount Shasta.

We don't live a typical 9-5 life, we have homes in two amazing cities, we work hard, we play hard, we have created a life based on the foundation of being honorable and centered around family. We believe in community and building relationships with our clients.
